TAKE FLIGHT – HERON BUSH FIRE

A major study commissioned by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and led by the University of Sydney estimated that nearly 3 billion animals were killed or displaced by the fires in 2019. 3 BILLION SOULS. After a recent local backburning gone wrong, I was thinking about this whilst painting an abstract and the background turned to dusty flames and a Heron seemed to fly out of the canvas! The vibrant oils used to make this painting are a stark contrast to the charred background, showing the glory of what's there before the flames.
