Wild at 'Art

Hello, I’m May,

Art has always been my way of expressing what words cannot. Every stroke, every shade, every piece I create carries a part of me, my emotions, my reflections, and my stories.

I do not restrict myself to a specific ‘style’, genre or media because I like to turn my hand to many things. I have a light sunny side for when I just want to play, and a rather shaded side that is concerned about the plight of the Natural World. This is where my “ARTIVIST” work comes to the fore.

I have therefore separated my fine art into five categories;

Consequential

Abstraction

Figurative

Nature & Landscapes

Murals

Through all of my works, I hope to share not just visuals, but feelings, something you can connect with in your own way.

I divide my time between The Northern Beaches, NSW, Australia and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Contact me, I’d love to hear from you!

From the first brushstroke to today

My artistic journey began the day I was born. It’s a way of looking at the world through a different lens. In-fact, my mum always joked that I was born wearing rose tinted glasses.

Alas, that pure childish joy of creating slowly became replaced by the expectations of life; especially if you were born in a small Lancashire town.

That said, I have been very fortunate to keep art and creation close in all of my venture’s.

My very first job at the age of 19 was to hand paint designs for textile prints. I couldn’t quite believe that I was being paid for this pleasure!

My aptitude for colour was apparent early on, and fashion design nudged me blindly into corporate life.

A round peg in a square hole indeed, but a character-building life experience all the same. It enabled me to travel the world, although, I had to fight to hold onto those rose-tinted glasses!

In my working life I have moved through graphic design, textile design, clothing design/development, interior design, furniture design, building development, retail construction and retail visual design.

Whilst grateful for all of my ‘growing experiences’, some years ago, I finally took the leap of faith and realized my life’s passion and goal to be a fulltime artist.

One could say that I have come ‘full circle’ and finally landed right where I was always meant to be.

Natalie R., Manchester

“Mayhem’s art radiates passion and purpose. Knowing that part of the proceeds support animal rescue makes it even more meaningful. I have reduced my meat intake as a result”

Barry S., London

“I asked May if she would paint a large mural in the main dining area. I wanted a merged cityscape of Liverpool and Amsterdam. It is so quirky and bright, I get asked about it all the time. She also did the Interior Design of my restaurant. So multi-telented”!

Graham M., Amsterdam

“When I asked May to paint my favorite flowers, I was aware that she doesn’t typically do flowers. I’m so delighted that she graciously accepted because the colour and life they bring to my bedroom makes me wake up with joy.”
