Alfons could talk, not with human words, but with his own language. His gaze could look directly into your soul and hold a mirror up to your face, unlike any human that I know can. Humans think that because animals don't have a written language that they are not as intelligent, in my opinion, their form of language is much more evolved than humans. You can train your brian to not think with words, and when you reach this state you can start to communicate with animals.
