Schoonouders in Dutch is a much nicer word for Parents-In-Law. This painting captures the tranquility of the couple just 'being' in the same space. This image was the same to be witnessed every Sunday morning and there is something very beautiful and peaceful about the normality of that. I was very happy with the soft light in the room and wanted to convey the feeling of peace with the muted tones. It wasn't until later that I learned the blouse was my Mother-In-Laws old favorite. My Mother-In-Law likes small paintings which can be challenging to capture the details in oil, and I prefer to paint large. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed painting it and she is very happy with the result which is the most important.
